报告摘要:Auroral kilometric radiation (AKR) is a powerful radio emission generated above the optical aurora during auroral electron precipitation. It provides a remote diagnostic of auroral activity and electron acceleration processes, and its emissions show a strong correlation with magnetospheric substorm activity. Since its discovery in the 1960s, extensive studies have investigated the generation mechanisms of AKR and its key characteristics, including polarization, intensity, propagation properties, etc. In this talk, I will briefly review both the historical and recent research on AKR and highlight several new advances. These include a newly derived global AKR distribution based on multi-spacecraft observations, new evidence for ducted propagation of AKR through the plasmasphere, and a comprehensive survey of AKR source crossings that, for the first time, reveals the global AKR source regions. |
